Venue Submission Help
Venue Submission Guidelines
Welcome to Kikipedia! We appreciate your interest in contributing to our platform by listing a venue. These guidelines are designed to ensure that all submissions maintain the quality and focus of our nightlife community resource.
1. Venue Eligibility
To be eligible for listing on Kikipedia, a venue must be a publicly accessible location that primarily contributes to the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. This includes, but is not limited to: gay and/or lesbian bars and clubs; LGBTQ-owned cafes, breweries, and restaurants that outwardly promote LGBTQ ownership and inclusivity; and venues that regularly host LGBTQ+ events (though many of these may be unlisted and only included on the events they host). At the moment, we only focus on nightlife and event-centric venues, rather than general LGBTQ-owned businesses.
2. Exclusions and Restrictions
While we want to support and uplift LGBTQ-owned businesses, not all may make sense to be listed on Kikipedia at this time. We have not designed a system to separate nightlife spaces from 3rd spaces and other businesses and maintain those listings.
The following categories of venues are generally excluded from listings or require specific flagging for listing on Kikipedia:
- Venues that are solely online or virtual, without a physical location for public access.
- Venues that are temporary or pop-up locations without a consistent physical presence.
- Venues that, while occasionally hosting outside LGBTQ+ events, do not prominently market themselves as LGBTQ+ inclusive or focused.
3. Best Practices
Venue Images
We prefer high-quality, clear images that accurately represent the venue. Images should ideally showcase the venue's entrance, including any visible signage. Ensure that images do not contain personal information or copyrighted material without permission.
Venue Information
Provide accurate and comprehensive information about the venue. Our lookup will typically auto-fill the name and address. Beyond that: website (if applicable), instagram handle, and a brief description of its offerings, focusing on its role in the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. Ensure that all information is up-to-date and reflects the current state of the venue.
4. Right to Gatekeep
Kikipedia reserves the right to reject or remove any venue submission at our sole discretion, with or without cause, and without prior notice. While we strive to maintain clear guidelines, we may reject submissions that do not align with our platform's goals, values, or quality standards, even if they technically meet the requirements listed above.
